James Reeson travelled from Cambridgeshire club Brampton Park to compete in a double header Galvin Green Northern Order of Merit weekend.

And it was worth his while as the plus two player won the Birkdale Silver Goblet the day after finishing third in the Pines Trophy at neighbouring Hillside.

Reeson strung together rounds of 75 and 73, four-over-par all told, to finish two shots ahead of Royal Liverpool’s Matthew Jordan.

There was no change at the top of the merit table after the two amateur world raking points events with Formby’s Paul Kinnear holding a narrow lead over Pines Trophy winner John Carroll, from Huyton & Prescot.
