Bike & Go launches ‘on the spot’ registration
Merseyrail-backed Bike & Go scheme have made changes to the business to allow customers to hire a bike on the spot from their smartphone; great for locals and tourists who want to choose the green option when making the most of the nice weather.
That basically means that people at Formby and Southport stations can decide on the spot to hire a bike, either to get home or to go for a bike ride, and just use their smartphone to do so, whereas previously they had to register online and wait for their user card to arrive through the post.
Bike & Go, the hire scheme which offers rail users the opportunity to continue their journey by bike, has introduced a new ‘spontaneous subscriber’ scheme to allow Merseyrail users to take advantage of the sunny weather.
Under the new initiative, users simply need to register their card details online and pay the annual subscription fee. They will then be emailed a user number, which they can take along to their desired station’s ticket office to verify their subscription and allow immediate bike hire.
Kaj Mook, Bike & Go Director said: “We’re delighted to be able to offer this enhanced service, which will allow customers to make the most of the beautiful weather we’re currently enjoying. Users can subscribe via smart phones, tablets at the station or online at home before heading to the station to pick up their bike.”
With a daily rental fee of just £3.80 for 24 hours, plus a £10 annual subscription cost, Bike & Go offers an enjoyable and easy way to complete a train journey by bike or just to enjoy the local area.

Further Information
Bike & Go targets the functional cyclist, enabling rail customers to complete the final leg of their trip by bike. Focused on the last mile of a passenger’s trip, it is simple, convenient and cost-effective.
The scheme was launched in 2013, and currently operates at locations on Merseyrail, Northern Rail, Abellio Greater Anglia and ScotRail. More stations are scheduled to go live in the near future.

To use Bike & Go, customers have to subscribe online, then show their membership card at a station ticket office, where they will be given a key to unlock a bike from a clearly branded Bike & Go stand. The key will be scanned when the bike is hired and after being returned at the station.
