Hop and Horn News Update

It's official, the Hop and Horn have started work last week on turning the old Haro Lounge into the trendy bar, grill and function room and should be opening in approximately 3 to 4 weeks.

A taste of things to come.....

There will be an exciting taste of things to come for people attending the Formby Live Music Festival next weekend, 26th - 28th June.

The town's latest bar and grill, the Hop and Horn, in the centre of the village is erecting a gazebo on the pavement for customers to sample their special local ales and enjoy the music ahead of an official opening in a few weeks.

Tastes of things to come will be from two new local microbreweries, Red Star, who have only been brewing for a matter of weeks in Formby and Parker Brewery, in Southport who started up last November. Rick Parker, of Parker's Brewery, said: “I live in Formby and was delighted when I was approached and asked to supply specially badged Hop and Horn ales for the new venture. I'm proud to be supporting the project and I'm looking forward to the festival at the weekend.”

Formby's new Red Star brewery will also be providing ales in the gazebo this weekend.

The Hop and Horn is being created in the former Haro Lounge in Chapel Lane. Work converting it into a bar, grill and function room started last week. When it opens its doors it will be providing work for around 40 people and serving locally brewed cask beers, bottled craft ales and a wide selection of wines and cocktails. “The important word for us is LOCAL,” said co-founder Sean Gallagher. “We will be using ,local products, employing local people, supporting the local community and providing entertainment by local people. We are not a chain. We are three local businessmen who believe we can bring a bit more life back into the village and provide a hub for the local community.”

The food will be fast casual with a menu offering such things as breakfast, brunch, gourmet burgers and piri piri style chicken as well as a special children's menu. A new open plan bar and seating area upstairs is being created for regular live music, comedy and sports nights able to take more than 100 people. Downstairs will be for more intimate eating and drinking.

Sean's other two Formby co-founders are Tony Williams and Martin Eastwood. “We have already had fantastic support locally and we're convinced we will be filling a real gap in the market in Formby,” he said. “We are open-minded about the type of events we can put on and would welcome ideas. “We really wanted to get involved in the festival this weekend and came up with the idea of putting the Gazebo up. But we'll be open and fully operational for the Formby Food and Drink Festival next month.”
