Deep Water Container Terminal creating 500 Jobs in Seaforth Docks

Peel Ports invites local people to apply for first 75 of 500 jobs being created at Liverpool2 at Seaforth docks.

Ports giant Peel is ready to take on the first 75 people out of the 500 it is looking to recruit to work at its new £300m Liverpool2 container terminal.

The huge facility on the Mersey, which is expected to be up and running by the end of the year, will be able to handle 95% of the world’s biggest container ships.

Last month, Peel Ports boss Gary Hodgson claimed Liverpool2 would revolutionise the UK’s logistics and distribution network by capturing a significant slice of the freight that currently comes through the southern UK ports.

Now the company is inviting applications for the first 75 jobs out of 500 it will create at Liverpool2 – and it wants as many as possible to go to those living locally.

The new jobs cover a diverse range of permanent positions including port operators, electricians, project managers, planners, marine officers, IT staff, sales executives, as well as roles in finance and management.

Peel Ports is now calling on local people to register their details via its careers site as it gears up for a huge recruitment campaign.

More than 70% of the workforce at the Port of Liverpool lives within a 10 mile radius of the port – a percentage the company would like to maintain.

Group HR director, Howard Sloane, told the ECHO: “These are very exciting times at Peel Ports as we begin to recruit colleagues that will operate one of the most technologically advanced container terminals in the UK.

“Our focus is on finding the best possible talent to join our organisation, and for the new jobs in Liverpool, we’d like as many recruits as possible to be from the Liverpool city region.
