Good Friday promises to be a beautiful day as Churches Together’s set-up team will arrive in the Village very early in the morning. They will prepare for the annual Walk of Witness which will include a full costume re-enactment of Jesus’ triumphant entry into Jerusalem, through drama and music, with a cast drawn from our local churches and the wider Formby community.
At 11.00 am Jesus will make his way down Chapel Lane to the Pool Gardens, riding a donkey and accompanied by his friends.
Last year over 800 local people lined the route cheering and waving branches of greenery. On his way, Jesus met groups of characters from the Scriptures including Caiaphas, the High Priest, who was plotting to have him crucified.
When the huge crowd arrived at the Pool Gardens, there were prayers and an address by Rev Malcolm Dyer, pastor of Formby Christian Fellowship. The stage was then set for the very moving trial of Jesus before Pontius Pilate, the scourging and finally his crucifixion and death.
This year is expected to be just as big a turn out in our Village as last year. Events start at 11am.
