First ever walk held at National Trust Formby and organised by Hearing Dogs for Deaf People
Be part of the first ever Great British Dog Walk which is being held at National Trust Formby and organised by Hearing Dogs for Deaf People.
Formby is one of the National Trust’s great outdoor places where dog walkers are welcome.
Local Ranger Louise Mitchell said: "We welcome responsible dog owners to Formby, which has a very varied habitat. From woodlands to the beach, there are lots of open spaces for your dog to run around in.
"However, in areas with sensitive wildlife, we ask that dogs are kept under closer control – so if you’re walking along the shoreline, please think about the wading birds that feed there and remember to keep your dog under control at all times.
"We’re delighted to be working with Hearing Dogs for Deaf People on the Great British Dog Walk and would encourage everyone to come along support the event."
Rachel Hassey from Hearing Dogs for Deaf People said: "This is the first time we’ve organised a Great British Dog Walk . Hearing Dogs for Deaf People is a centre of excellence in training fully qualified assistance dogs for deaf adults and children and the only charity of its kind in the UK.
"Our dogs are trained to alert deaf recipients to everyday sounds in the home, work place and public spaces. These sounds include the telephone, doorbell, cooker timer and smoke alarm.
"Formby has beautiful rolling sand dunes, fascinating history, lovely walking routes and red squirrels, so we know we’ll have no problem attracting dog walkers to the site.
