Sefton Council is offering a free Christmas tree recycling collection during January, 2015. The service is available for the four Saturdays between January 10 and January 31. Collection requests will be processed on a first come, first served basis and to make an appointment visithttp://www.sefton.gov.uk/20465 or call 0845 140 0845. Christmas trees can also be dropped off at the events field just off Lifeboat Road car park, Formby. These will be later used to trap sand to help reduce the effects of erosion along the Sefton coastline. Christmas trees can also be taken to the four household waste recycling centres operated by Merseyside Recycling and Waste Authority (MRWA). These are located at: Foul lane, Southport, Irlam Road, Bootle, Altcar Road, Formby, and Sefton Lane, Maghull. The sites are closed on Christmas Day, Boxing Day, and New Year's Day. Normal winter opening hours are 8am to 5pm. Please note that all trees must be free from decorations. Jospice is also offering to take away Christmas trees for recycling. A minimum donation of £5 is suggested with all proceeds towards the work of Jospice. Collection dates are Saturday, January 3 - L21, L22 & L23 postcode areas and Sunday, January 4 - L37 postcode area. For further details call 0151 932 6044. Christmas cards can also be recycled in the brown wheelie bin. Cards can also be recycled throughout January 2015 at most Marks and Spencers stores who are supporting the Woodland Trust.
