Formby remembers our Heros this Sunday....

Every year on the Sunday nearest to 11th November, special services are held to remember all those who have given their lives for the peace and freedom we enjoy today.

There will be an added poignancy to this year’s services, with 2014 marking 100 years since the outbreak of WWI.

The number of members of the public attending the services has increased in recent years and people are advised to arrive in plenty of time.

Remembrance Sunday will be marked by our annual ecumenical service at 3.00pm, on Sunday 9th November, in Rosemary Lane. The service will be preceded and followed by the usual parade from and back to, the Royal British Legion in Whitehouse Lane. This will be followed, on Monday 11th at 11.00am, by the Act of Remembrance at the War Memorial in the village. Formby Labour councillor Nina Killen will represent the mayor at Holy Trinity Church, Rosemary Lane, Formby, with the service beginning at 3pm.

The service includes laying wreaths and a parade from and to the Royal British Legion HQ in Whitehouse Lane. As the parade returns to Whitehouse Lane they will pass the War Memorial gardens where local representatives take the salute.

On Tuesday 11th November at 10.55 hrs there will a short act of remembrance at Formby War Memorial including the laying of wooden crosses, followed at 11.30 hrs at Our lady's Formby, Graveyard at the Polish War Graves.
