Formby Pool 10th Birthday celebrations and plans for a new Fitness Studio revealed
An open day at Formby pool took place on Friday 27th January. The centre was busy throughout the day with class taster sessions and special offers. Children were entertained with face painting, crafts and games.
A celebration event in the evening looked back at the origins of the pool, the developments since it has been open and recognised the contribution of everyone who contributed over the years. Patrick Moores spoke on behalf of Formby Land Trust and Andrew Walker on behalf of Sefton Council. David Kiernan the head of operations outlined achievements over the last 10 years including the popular swim school, GP referral and classes, Quest accreditation, and reduced carbon footprint. The mayor, Councillor Iain Brodie-Brown led a toast to Formby Pool past present and future and cut the birthday party cake that was enjoyed by all.
Dympna Edwards, chair of Formby Pool Trust announced that the trust plan to build a new fitness studio as part of the new 5 year strategy. She said "A fitness studio is what local people had asked for and this will enable us to offer more fitness classes and become more and more of a hub in the community".
David Kiernan head of operations said " The staff and customers are delighted with the proposals to build a new fitness studio. We will also be installing solar panels in 2017. Along with LED lighting and the pool cover installed in 2016 this will reduce our carbon footprint and make the pool more environmentally sustainable.
The new 10 year lease with Sefton council has been signed. Dympna Edwards acknowledged the support from partners in agreeing this extended lease. "As a charity we're here for local people and have Formby pool has enjoyed tremendous support from our local community. I would like to thank everyone, staff, partners, customers trustees and everyone who has contributed over the years to making this a success and we're looking forward to continuing this over the next 10 years and beyond.
